Hysterosalpingogram

A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is a procedure that uses an X-ray to look at the fallopian tubes and uterus.
It is a short outpatient procedure that is able to identify any structural abnormalities of the tubes and uterus that may be present.
Preparation for an HSG may include taking a mild pain medication as well as you may be prescribed an antibiotic.

The procedure is done by inserting a thin tube called a cannula into your cervix and gently fill the uterus with a liquid containing iodine. The iodine contrasts with the uterus and fallopian tubes on the X-rays which will show an outline and how the fluid moves through them.
